At Home By Tom Tom is a supper club held at The House Gallery, 70 Camberwell Church St, SE5.
It's all about seasonal food, with no fuss. But a lot of fun. And possibly a very old record player with some old LP's.
The first night in February was a great success, with some lovely feedback from people. You can see the comments here: http://bit.ly/athomefeedback
Some people have been asking why I am doing this.
Well, there are many reasons. I do remember my Dad talking about someone who hired a greasy spoon years and creating a fine dining experience, some time back in the 70's and that had always stuck in my mind. However, the catalyst for the supper club was that I am a food photographer and wanted to try out some new styles of shooting food. Working with Jane Hornby, a food stylist, to come up with some new ideas seemed like a good idea.
The more observant of you will have noticed a slight Iberian flavour to all the menus. I spent many years in Seville, and one of the many things that impressed me, apart from the simplicity of many dishes, was the way so much food was cooked in tiny kitchens. If Heston Blumenthal is your thing then this probably isn't the supper club for you! All House has is a two ring hob, a small oven and a panini toaster. My menus are not Spanish as such, but inspired by the Spanish love of fresh, simple dishes. So expect the food to taste great, but not to win points for presentation.
