A Pop-Up Singapore House Event
According to Chinese folk belief, the seventh month of the lunar calendar is known as Ghost Month, when gods, ghosts, and ancestor spirits emerge from the underworld to visit the realm of the living for food and entertainment. Offerings are made in the form of joss paper items, hell money, incense, and food, to satisfy ancestors, gods, as well as “homeless” ghosts that haven’t got any descendants to look after their needs in the afterlife.
During the Hungry Ghosts’ Festival on the fifteenth day, huge feasts and boisterous live performances known as “getai” are held to entertain and please the ghosts. Everyone is invited — including you — as long as you don’t sit on the seats reserved for the ghosts!
For our second Suppertime Stories collaboration, the Platform 65 Collective and the Two Hungry Girls promise bring you on an exciting Hungry Ghosts Festival journey you’ll never forget.
Expect a theatrical evening of interactive storytelling featuring props, multimedia projections, and endless tales of gods, ghosts, and ancestors, served alongside the Two Hungry Girls’ signature offerings of delectable Asian dishes even the gods would approve of!
We reserve the right to delight & surprise you on the day but you can expect:
Chilled Silken Tofu with Black Sesame & Century Egg Sauce
*Gressingham Duck Confit with Green Apple & Red Cabbage in Mantou Buns
Samsui Poached Chicken with Spring Onion & Ginger Sauce
