For the first time ever, Darjeeling Express takes a culinary detour for a journey that begins with a classic South Indian Tiffin, meanders through a spice route in London, and ends with a Calcutta supper club. All you need are walking shoes, a Zones 1-4 London Travel Card, and a hearty appetite!

Note: You can book just the walking tour portion or just the supperclub portion of this event, but we'd love for you to join us for the day!


12:15 pm
Meet at East Ham station in Zone 4. Walk for approximately 7 minutes to our first venue for a Tiffin lunch.
Menu: Masala dosa (crispy South Indian rice pancakes stuffed with delicious potatoes), Medu Vada (savoury Indian doughnuts… but so much better!), Idli (steamed rice cakes), All served with Sambhar (lentil broth) and coconut chutney, Chai, Filter Coffee or soft drink

2:00 pm
Michael will lead the food band through the treasure trove of South Indian spice and provision stores on the high street.

3:30 pm
Travel to our next destination: Brick Lane

4:00 pm
Bilal takes over now and will guide the walking tour from Brick Lane to Old Street.

5:30 pm
Calcutta Supper Club by Darjeeling Express.
Masala Chai, Papdi Chaat - Calcutta street snack of a layer of potatoes, finely chopped onions and coriander leaves on a crisp “papri”

Chicken Kathi Roll - Chicken stuffed flatbread

Amber Chicken - A fragrant tomato-based chicken from Calcutta’s Amber restaurant’s 1959 menu

Prawn malai curry - Coconut milk is the fragrant curry for the prawns cooked only with a single spice – turmeric

Peas Pulao - Peas and whole spices are steamed with the finest basmati rice

Cucumber Raita - Cooling yoghurt dip
Tomato, apricot & prune chutney
Gajjar ka Halwa - A carrot dessert inspired by the halwa made in Asma’s hometown of Aligarh with bright red winter carrots
Fruit Chaat with Rock Salt, lime juice and brown sugar

Your Darjeeling Express Conductors for the day are:

Michael Braga lived in Calcutta until 1987 and has since been exploring the world through its food markets and local foodie haunts. Now a flavour enthusiast, keen shopper and proud Londoner, Mike is not quite ready to let go of the flavours from home and has successfully recreated here in London, his food experiences of his childhood in Calcutta.

Bilal Patel is a British born Prestonian and his mum’s Gujarati cooking is legendary. Since he traded the North West of England for London, Bilal has been on the hunt for home-style restaurants that can match the calibre of his mum’s cooking.

Asma Khan and Pooja Vir share a hometown, a love for Bollywood, and an unconditional passion for authentic flavours. They are Darjeeling Express and can’t wait to feed you!
