Here's what some people think....

"We had a totally amazing night! The van was adorable, the Fruits de Mer was the best we've ever eaten (enormous oysters and unbelievably good lobster) and chefs were absolute superstars! It was up there in the top 5 meals of my life! Anita - you can stand proudly alongside Angela Hartnett and Gordon Ramsey, my dear :-) Huge thanks and big round of applause - Eleanor Thompson

"What a wonderful breakfast experience with La Petite Bouchee this morning in Sydenham Wells Park. The most fantastic eggs benedict EVER and I'm a very fussy girl when it comes to eggs. Perfectly cooked with ham to die for. Washed down with Prosecco but of course and shared with my husband in a rare child free weekend. With the weather so cold and crisp today it just adds to the dining experience in their gorgeous little citroen. Still don't take my word for it though book and go its a perfect little treat." -Rachel D'Cruze

"While I thank you for adapting to our food and time preferences, I'd like to highlight your warm welcome, effortless and natural charm which was reflected in your honest, creative, full-flavour food"- Raj Lal

"My Wee Mammy and Aunty M had the most amazing time tonight at La Petite Bouchée. I don't think they could have sung higher praises about the food, the uniqueness of the setting and how wonderful Anita-Clare Field was. To quote Aunty M, "definitely, definitely recommend everyone try it. We loved it!" -Lynne Craig

"We were served 1Kg of the finest mussels you can imagine, they were a-m-a-z-i-n-g, such great quality and I have to say, it was one of my favourite meals, in quite sometime" - Zoelee Spencer

"A real treat! La Petite Bouchee is a truly magical way to start your day with brunch with friends. If it is a dining experience with a difference you are looking for - then this is it. The food, drinks & hosting is superb, leaving you all the time in the world to relax, chat & get ready for that busy day ahead of you. We will be back!" - Jodie and Nicola Parker

"I was treated to an evening in this gorgeous Citroen Van in Wells Park last night. I have to say, I LOVED IT." - Emma Hunter

"This is so delicious, I don't want it too end" -Henny Fox

"This weekend I found the perfect Croque Madamme in the back of a van in Sydenham. Those are words I never thought I would type" - Gemma Thomas

YUMMY SEA FOOD DINING BY THE (FROZEN!) LAKE

Rating: 6

PAMELATODD18 attended Poissoniere in May 2015, reviewed on 2 May 2015

A WEATHER PERMITTING EVENT WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO PLAN AND BOOK IN ADVANCE- IT WAS COLD AND THREATENING RAIN THE EVENING WE ATTENDED SO OUR ENJOYMENT WAS SOMEWHAT COMPROMISED. WE ENJOYED THE FRESH SEAFOOD AND FRIENDLY RELAXED AMBIENCE AND WOULD RECOMMEND FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE BUT WE DIDNT WANT TO HANG ABOUT IN THE COLD SO LITERALLY WE ATE AND RAN. NO EXTRA BOOZE ORDERED - IT WAS TOO COLD TO INDULGE (YES IN MAY!) :-(

SHAME AS A CREATIVE AND DIFFERENT IDEA BUT NOT ONE FOR SOFTY SOUTHERNERS. IT WOULD BE FANTASTIC ON A WARM SUMMER EVENING BUT WE DONT GET MANY OF THOSE AND CERTAINLY NOT TO ORDER.

WE WERE SEATED OUTSIDE IN A GAZEBO WITH A LITTLE HEATER - THE INSIDE SEATS ARE PROB BETTER BUT CAN ONLY ACCOMMODATE 4 AND ARE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS

La Petite Bouchee responded on 27 May 2015:

you were so lovely and so gracious. I am so sad because the weather has been so kind to us ever since. We'd love to offer you a 10% discount and a bottle of fizz off your next experience with us. Thanks so much for all your very positive comments :)

Beautiful van and surrounding area. But was freezing cold despite having a heater. The food eventually arrived and was cold. The pastries tasted like they were from a supermarket. Was very excited about this experience but it just didn't cut it unfortunately.

La Petite Bouchee responded on 17 January 2015:

Thanks for writing your review. However, for the purposes of others reading this, La Petite Bouchee is a bistro set in a 1970's camper van it is 43 years old. There are no frills, we do have a heater and when we speak with guests before hand we always have checked the weather forecast and advise on attire. In the spirit of fairness I apologised profusely for my being on my own, my assistant that day was ill and I apologised repeatedly for the delays. I agree that the pastries were not from our normal French baker, they had not returned from Christmas vacation but they were most certainly NOT from a supermarket. I will pass on your comments to the baker we used that week so that they can take note for future customers. We welcome all feedback and thank you for yours. Others reading this please refer to the 10/10 for Brunch and other events we have consistently received since we opened. Many thanks

Been twice and a wonderful way to have a very different type of evening. Great food, very reasonably priced and quite bizarre in the best possible way!

Thanks for your lovely review Roger, it is always a great pleasure to see both yourself and Judy.

We went for brunch on Sunday, and actually this was our second experience at La Petite Bouchee as we came for moules frites earlier in the year. As before, we had a brilliant time! The food (Jason had croque Madame and I had an omlette, followed by our body-weight in pastries and gorgeous home-made jam) was absolutely brilliant and Anita-Clare's hospitality is wonderful! We have booked to go back again soon and I can't recommend it highly enough; try her Bloody Maries if you go for brunch, they're superb! Thanks for another great meal :)

La Petite Bouchee responded on 17 January 2015:

Thank you so much, it is always a pleasure to see you both and I am delighted brunch was up to scratch :)

Moules Frites and Fruits de Mer

DHunter attended Fruits De Mer in September 2014, reviewed on 4 October 2014

Been twice now to the cutest and most imaginative restaurant venue in London. Chef Anita's cooking is trumped only by her joyous and generous personality.

On both occasions the food was top quality, but undoubtedly the langoustines were the best I've ever had. The wines were excellent and more-than-reasonably priced.

Was treated to an evening in this gorgeous Citroen Van in Wells Park last night. I have to say, I LOVED IT. Anita is so enthusiastic and passionate about her food. She clearly cares deeply about tasty, quality food. Every aspect of this evening was perfect, even the weather held out for us! The Prosecco was creamy and perfectly chilled, but the Fruits de Mer were superb. I'd never had whelks or winkles before so was very excited to try them. Langoustines, oysters, mussels and lobster are among my most favourite foods and these were of the highest quality! The lobster was sweet and meaty, the mussels plump, langoustines were massive and the oysters still tasting of the sea they were plucked from. Anita's mayo is utterly delicious (we were dipping our bread in it, we couldn't get enough) and her shallot vinegar for the oysters, was very tasty.

I'm not sure what was better, the perfectly converted little van, the genius of positioning it in the park, the wonderful Anita or the food. So they all get 12 out of 10 & I can't wait to go back :-)

La Petite Bouchee responded on 22 September 2014:

Thank you so very much, you are so welcome, we really look forward to welcoming you again soon :)

La Petite Bouchee was a fantastic spot for Sunday Brunch. Its location in Sydenham Park and the wonderfully appointed van are perfect for a slow Sunday morning, Anita is a great host and the food was perfect - the Eggs Royale Benedict were absolutely delicicious. I would, without a doubt, go again!

We booked La Petite Bouchée as a special treat for a chum who was visiting from out of town and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the eggs Royal and omelette, which were both delicious, topped up with orange juice, coffee and fizz. Though we were stuffed to the gills, some super tasty pastries followed that we couldn't resist. This a unique experience and is really good value - though I needed a bit of lie down afterwards because I was so full...
